Club History
Football in Raheny has deep local roots, with organised youth and senior teams operating in the area for decades. Raheny Boys and Dunseedy United each played a central role in providing football opportunities for local players, built largely through volunteer effort and strong community support.
1960’s–1993
Roots in community
Formation of Raheny United (1994)
In 1994, Raheny Boys and Dunseedy United amalgamated to form Raheny United FC. The decision was driven by a shared belief that a single, unified club would create stronger foundations for player development, facilities, and long-term sustainability within the community.
Early Growth and Volunteer Foundations (1990s)
The club’s early years were shaped by volunteers. Coaches, parents, and committee members worked to establish teams, raise funds, and build a stable structure. Despite limited resources, the club expanded steadily and began to develop a clear identity rooted in participation, development, and community involvement.
2003
A Permanent Home: Clubhouse Development
A major milestone was reached in 2003 with the opening of the redeveloped clubhouse. This provided Raheny United with a permanent base, improved changing facilities, and a social hub for players, families, and members. The clubhouse became central to both football operations and club life.
2000s–2010s
Expansion of Youth and Academy Football
As the club matured, youth football expanded significantly. The introduction and growth of the academy created a clear entry point for young players, while structured pathways allowed players to progress through age groups at an appropriate level. This period also saw continued expansion across boys’, girls’, and senior football.
European Recognition: Women’s Football Success
Raheny United’s commitment to the women’s game delivered significant sporting milestones, including participation in the UEFA Women’s Champions League. Competing at European level marked a defining moment for the club and highlighted the strength of its women’s programme and development structures.
Securing Key Facilities: St Anne’s Park
2015
In 2015, Raheny United entered a partnership with Dublin City Council and Raheny GAA to take responsibility for the all-weather pitch in St Anne’s Park. This ensured year-round access to a high-quality facility and supported the club’s continued growth in participation and standards.
2019
25 Years of Raheny United
The club celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2019, marking a quarter-century since the amalgamation. By this point, Raheny United had grown into one of Ireland’s largest junior football clubs, while remaining volunteer-led and community-focused.
Continued Investment in Facilities
2025
In 2025, further significant upgrades were completed to the clubhouse. These included a new gym, a dedicated video analysis room, refurbished changing rooms, and a redesigned entrance area. These improvements ensured the facilities matched the scale and needs of a modern, growing club.
Growth in Participation and the Present Day
In recent years, Raheny United has experienced strong growth in participation across academy, youth, and senior football. The increase in teams, players, and volunteers reflects both the strength of the club’s development pathway and its reputation within the local community.
